The Gufoni maneuver is an effective treatment for horizontal canal Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). Here are step-by-step instructions for performing the Gufoni maneuver for right-sided BPPV:
Instructions for Right-Sided BPPV:
Starting Position:
Sit upright on the edge of your bed or a flat surface.
Lie Down Quickly:
Quickly lie down on your left side (the side opposite to the affected ear) with your head kept level and facing straight ahead.
Hold this position for 1-2 minutes or until any dizziness subsides.
Head Turn:
Quickly turn your head 45 degrees downward (towards the bed). Your nose should point towards the floor.
Hold this position for 2-3 minutes or until any dizziness subsides.
Sit Up:
Slowly return to the upright sitting position.
Important Notes:
Perform this maneuver once or twice a day until symptoms resolve.
It is normal to feel dizzy during the maneuver, but this should decrease with repeated sessions.
Avoid sudden head movements after performing the maneuver.
