The modified Semont maneuver is a gentler version of the original Semont maneuver, designed to treat Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) affecting the posterior semicircular canal. This variation involves slower, more controlled movements to help reduce the intensity of dizziness during the procedure.

Procedure for the Modified Semont Maneuver for Left-Sided BPPV:

  1. Starting Position:

    • Sit upright on the edge of a bed or a flat surface.

  1. Turn Head:

    • Turn your head 45 degrees to the right, away from the affected left ear.

  1. Lie Down to the Affected Side:

    • Quickly lie down on your left side, keeping your head turned to the right. Your head should be facing upward at a 45-degree angle.

    • Hold this position for 1-2 minutes, or until any dizziness subsides.

  1. Pause in Sitting Position:

    • Return to the upright sitting position and pause for about 30 seconds to allow any dizziness to diminish.

  1. Lie Down to the Opposite Side:

    • Turn your head 45 degrees to the left and then quickly lie down on your right side, keeping your head turned to the left. Your head should be facing downward at a 45-degree angle.

    • Hold this position for 1-2 minutes, or until any dizziness subsides.

  1. Return to Sitting Position:

    • Slowly return to the upright sitting position and remain seated for a few minutes to ensure that any residual dizziness passes.

Important Notes:

  • Perform this maneuver once or twice a day until symptoms resolve.

  • It is common to feel dizzy during the maneuver, but this should decrease with repeated sessions.

  • Avoid sudden head movements after performing the maneuver.

  • If symptoms persist or worsen, consult your healthcare provider.
